Three of the five alleged cash-in-transit heist conspirators will appear at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court this Thursday morning. With two suspects still in hospital under police guard, the state has announced its intention to oppose bail due to the severity of the crime.

On Monday, a police raid took place at a house in Town Two, leading to the capture and injury of the suspects. Eight other gunmen were shot and killed during the operation.

Among the injured, one suspect is in critical condition with a stomach wound, while the other, needing leg reconstruction surgery, remains in stable condition. The entire incident underscores the violence surrounding this high-stakes heist.

Four of the surviving suspects hail from the Western Cape, whereas one is identified as being from Soweto, Gauteng.

This geographic spread highlights the organized nature of the criminal operation. The court appearance of the three able-bodied suspects will mark a significant step in the judicial proceedings against them.

The state’s decision to oppose bail is strongly influenced by the gravity of the charges and the public safety concerns posed by such organized crime.

Given the lethal force encountered during the raid and the planning involved in the cash-in-transit heist, the state seeks to mitigate any further risk of flight or recidivism among the suspects.

The seriousness of the crime and the fatal engagements during the raid underscores the state’s firm stance on bail opposition for the suspects involved in the Khayelitsha cash-in-transit heist.
